Chinese government linked to Liverpool FC takeover
The takeover Liverpool FC has taken another twist today after it was revealed the Chinese government is funding a bid to buy the club. The country’s overseas investment arm China Investment Corporation (CIC) is reportedly financing a takeover attempt by Chinese businessman Kenny Huang, who yesterday publicly confirmed that he is interested in assuming control at Anfield.

Jobs boost as ServiceSource picks the Plaza
San Francisco-based ServiceSource International has chosen Bruntwood’s The Plaza in Liverpool as the location for its second European service centre. The move is expected to create 258 new jobs while it is estimated the investment will be worth £35m to the Liverpool city region.

Liverpool City Council defends chief executive pay offer
Liverpool City Council has defended the decision to recruit a new chief executive on a salary of up to £197,500 – £55,000 more than the Prime Minister. The move comes after local government secretary Eric Pickles criticised the council for being “out of touch” with public sector pay.

£81m sponsorship is cost-effective, says Standard Chartered
Standard Chartered’s four-year sponsorship of Liverpool FC is "all about building basic brand awareness", the bank’s chief executive Peter Sands said. The international bank agreed the £81m shirt sponsorship deal last September, which equalled the most lucrative in football history.

Nutrition Point nets Lloyds deal
Warrington-based Nutrition Point, a supplier of gluten and wheat free foods, has secured a contract with Lloyds Pharmacy. Many of its products will now be available in Lloyds’ online store.

Everton FC has announced plans to build a £9m retail and office complex adjacent to Goodison Park. The move follows its failed bid to relocate to a new stadium in Kirkby.

Urban Splash has secured three new tenants in its Liverpool commercial portfolio, taking the total value of space let this year to more than 80,000 sq ft. Leisure operator 8th Leisure Entertainment has taken a 5,500 sq ft unit at Old Haymarket which will soon be launched as a new café and piano bar.

Consultancy Colliers CRE has issued new data on prime retail rents across the UK – and it could be worrying for the North West. In a market where the national average has slipped back from £115 per sq ft to £114 per sq ft, rents in the North West on average fell by 3.1 per cent from £101 to £98.

New Asda confirmed for Birkenhead
Wirral Council has agreed terms with Asda for a new supermarket to be built in Birkenhead town centre. Building work is expected to start this autumn. It comes after the authority granted Peel’s Wirral Waters planning permission.
