Expo event targets Chinese tourists
The organisers behind Liverpool’s presence at the World Expo have held an event in Shanghai in a bid to attract more tourists to the region from China. More than 80 senior figures from the Chinese tourism industry were told about the North West’s top attractions and cultural offer. The event also saw the launch of a new tour from China Holidays which takes in Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage waterfront, the Lake District, Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground and a visit to Chester. Mike Taylor, director of investment and enterprise at Liverpool Vision, said: “Becoming established as a tourist destination for Chinese visitors will deliver significant economic benefits in the medium term as well as strengthening our relationships in the long term.”

Eatonfield draws down more cash
Cash-strapped Cheshire property developer Eatonfield, founded by Secret Millionaire Rob Lloyd, has drawn down more cash from a facility provided by a joint venture partner. The company has issued 22,235,000 new ordinary shares at 1p each after drawing down £222,350 against its facility with Jenard Properties. It has £350,000 left to draw down from the facility which would provide it with enough working capital to last until mid-July. Eatonfield is working on a scheme in south Wales with Jenard.

Profits up at Dee Valley
Wrexham water company Dee Valley Group has announced full year pre-tax profits of £6.6m, up from £3.1m in 2009. Revenues rose by 3.9 per cent to £20.8m for the year to 31 March. The company, which supplies water to homes in north east Wales and Cheshire, said trading since its year end has been in line with expectations. Chairman Graham Scott added that the increase in revenue was less than the average increase in prices of 4.3 per cent due to the effect of customers switching from unmeasured water tariffs to measured charging.
