Peel gets green light but warns on call in

Lombard drives Selwyns investment
Runcorn coach operator Selwyns Travel has invested £1.6m in its fleet after securing funding from Lombard, the asset finance arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland. The business has bought seven new vehicles to operate a contract for National Express.

Nichols drinks to record profits
Nichols, the quoted soft drinks company based in Newton-le-Willows, has reported another sharp rise in sales and profits, beating its “exceptional” performance last year. The company, which makes Vimto, posted sales of £44.2m for the six months to 30 June, up 17.6 per cent compared with last year. Pre-tax profit was up 39 per cent to £6m.

Record month for Professional Liverpool
Business network and lobbying group Professional Liverpool has reported a record month of new member registrations. Chief executive Mark Chadwick said it was a “great endorsement” for the organisation, which is thought to have lost around 80 per cent of its annual funding due to the Northwest Regional Development Agency’s (NWDA) budget restrictions.

Increased revenue at moneysupermarket.com
Moneysupermarket.com has reported revenue of £71.6m for the six months to 30 June 2010, up 4 per cent on the same period last year. The price comparison website said its profitability had improved throughout the first half of the year.

Nobles lands Queenscourt health contract
Nobles Construction has been awarded a £800,000 contract by Queenscourt Hospice in Southport. The Liverpool contractor has been appointed to build two ward extensions to improve facilities and increase bedroom size.

Neptune revamp could start this month
Work to restore Liverpool’s historic Neptune Theatre could begin before the end of the month, the city council has confirmed. The theatre’s doors closed five years ago due to health and safety reasons, but much-needed refurbishment work is set to go ahead following talks between council leader Joe Anderson and David Ramsey from landlord Hanover.

Hello Northwest has attratcted 14 new businesses to the region since it launched in January, it has been announced. The soft landing service offers free office space for new investors in the region.

Liverpool One signs up Desigual
Desigual, the Spanish fashion retailer, has agreed to take a 5,108 sq ft store at Grosvenor's Liverpool One development. The new store is located in Paradise Street and will open in October.

Travis Perkins takes Spectra space
Knight Frank has secured a letting at Spectra Business Park in Warrington on behalf of Maro Developments. Travis Perkins, represented by CP Property Consultants, has taken a 68,000 sq ft self-contained warehouse unit on a five-year lease and will use the premises as its North West distribution hub.
