Site Electrical fits for Eric Wright
Eric Wright Group, the Lancashire contractor and developer, has expanded its civil engineering division with the acquisition of Bury-based Site Electrical. The deal adds 88 staff and three offices to the Eric Wright Civil Engineering (EWCE) business.

RBS to cut more North West jobs
Royal Bank of Scotland is to cut 3,500 jobs across the UK, with 12 offices under threat of closure in England including its operations in Bolton and Liverpool. The move puts more than 500 jobs in the region at risk.

Dave Whelan: give youth a chance
Retail tycoon and Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan last night placed himself at the heart of the government’s Big Society project by calling on businesses in the North West to back lads and girls clubs in locations around the region. Speaking at Insider’s Leaders Dinner at the Lowry Hotel, he said Wigan Lads Club saved his life as a young rogue in the post-war years and many young people need that same direction now.

Martin Yaffe collapsed owing £2.5m
Rochdale toy company Martin Yaffe International, which went into administration in July, collapsed owing more than £2.5m. The details are contained in a creditors’ report filed at Companies House by administrators from Leonard Curtis.

Steady first-half for ServicePower
Stockport systems management company ServicePower has reported a first-half of “steady progress” after returning to profit. The company posted a pre-tax profit of £679,000 for the six months to 30 June, up from a loss of £2m for the same period a year earlier.

Funding boost for Rochdale development
The £250m revamp of Rochdale town centre has secured a major funding boost from a Japanese property investor. Manchester-based Genr8 Developments, Rochdale Borough Council's regeneration partner, has struck a deal with Kajima Partnerships that will see a £100m injection of funding.

GVA Grimley expands niche division
Property consultancy GVA Grimley has recruited Neil Lovell-Kennedy to its specialist rights of light and party wall division GVA Schatunowski Brooks. He will be based in the firm’s Manchester office and moves from Edmund Kirby in Liverpool.

Manchester set for new academies
Five new academies and two new schools are set to open in Manchester next week – the first new secondary schools in the city for more than 25 years. The buildings are part of the now scrapped Building Schools for the Future programme.
