Northern Hub plans are ‘essential’, says Stopforth

Insider’s campaign to attract major investment into the northern rail network received a boost yesterday as three big guns from the private sector threw their weight behind the project. Speaking at Insider’s Logistics breakfast in Liverpool Jack Stopforth, chief executive of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, said the £530m Northern Hub “was absolutely essential to the importance of rail in the city region”, and made the case for the North West.

CoorsTek moves for Flowguard
CoorsTek, a US manufacturer of high-performance plastic components, has acquired pressure control business Flowguard, based in High Peak near Buxton. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Bridgepoint backs BAS buyout
Bridgepoint Development Capital has backed a management buyout of Building Automation Solutions (BAS). The Altrincham-based company, founded in 2006 following a buyout from Siemens, helps businesses reduce their energy costs and consumption. Managing director Brin Sheridan led the buyout.

Clitheroe textile company Thornber Home & Leisure has completed its second deal in as many months with the acquisition of Dorset fabric producer Busby & Busby from administration.
