Insider boards world's largest passenger plane
North West relations with the Middle East took another step forward as Emirates launched its Airbus A380 service between Manchester and Dubai – a world first for any regional airport. In a bold statement to the regional aviation market, the 517-capacity, twin-deck plane landed on the tarmac at 12.25pm yesterday in front of more than 10,000 spectators.

McBride buys Czech business as revenues grow
Personal care products group McBride has bought a 70 per cent stake in Dermacol, a Czech-based manufacturer of skincare products, in a deal worth up to £8m. The company has also revealed a record set of results for the year to 30 June, with revenues up 2 per cent to £812.2m.

Shred-it heads for Wales
Manchester-based Shred-it has taken over Cardiff-based South Wales Shredding. The new acquisition, which operates from the Garth Estate in Taffs Well, brings the number of Shred-it locations in Wales to two. It has 17 sites across the UK.

£2m swallowed up by Phagenesis
Manchester-based Phagenesis has raised £2m of investment to support the development of a new class of treatments for stroke patients who suffer from dysphagia. The company, which specialises in developing technology for the treatment of swallowing dysfunction, was spun out from the University of Manchester.

Busy football transfer window for Brabners
North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has revealed it advised on more than 30 football transfers during the summer transfer window. Deals included the transfer of Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan to Manchester City and advising Liverpool on its acquisition of Joe Cole. It says it was also involved in Liverpool's appointment of former Fulham manager Roy Hodgson, following the departure of Rafael Benitez.

Professional Liverpool makes Chadwick redundant
Business network and lobbying group Professional Liverpool is to make its chief executive Mark Chadwick redundant after being hit by a funding crisis. The group’s board said it took the decision so it can continue to operate as a “sustainable and viable organisation”.
