World Cup windfall for North West if England wins bid
The North West stands to reap financial benefits worth hundreds of millions of pounds if England’s 2018 World Cup bid is successful later today. With Manchester and Liverpool set to be host cities for the event, the tournament could generate more than £200m for the region.

Daisy pays £23.5m for NEG
Acquisitive communications business Daisy Group, based in Lancashire, has completed its second deal in a month with the purchase of Essex-headquartered NEG MBO Two. The company will pay £23.5m in cash.

Losses widen as Devilfish confirms deal
Cheshire online gaming operator Devilfish Gaming has posted an increased pre-tax loss of £2.1m for the year to 30 June 2010. It has also confirmed plans to sell its wholly-owned online gambling subsidiary Devil Fish Poker for £330,000.

JJB likely to breach financial covenants
Wigan retailer JJB Sports this morning warned that it is likely to breach its banking covenants as sales continue to remain below management expectations. The company, which completed its company voluntary arrangement in 2009, said trading conditions have been “extremely challenging” since it last updated the market early last month.

Genser opens European HQ in Manchester
Indian aerospace company Genser has set up its European headquarters in Manchester. The company is the second this week to open a base in the city after taking advantage of 'soft landing' service Hello Northwest.

New chief executive at Styles & Wood
Ivan McKeever is to step down as chief executive of Altrincham property services group Styles & Wood to pursue other business interests. His successor will be Tony Lenehan, who joins from Bovis Lend Lease.

Morrison to leave Vision+Media
Alice Morrison has announced plans to leave her role as chief executive of North West creative and digital support organisation Vision+Media. Earlier this week the government announced plans to merge the organisation with eight other screen agencies into a single body called Creative England.

Sanguine reveals £10m Birmingham plans
Liverpool hospitality group Sanguine Hospitality has unveiled plans for a new £10m boutique hotel, restaurant and health club in Birmingham city centre. The company, which has a portfolio of ten venues across the UK, is teaming up with TV chef Marco Pierre White to open Birmingham’s first ever skyline restaurant, with 360 degree panoramic views of the city.

McGrigors takes Spinningfields space
Law firm McGrigors has signed a deal to move into new premises at Spinningfields in Manchester city centre. The firm has taken 11,000 sq ft, spread over two floors, at No1 The Avenue.

Shackletons expands with NatWest
Chatburn-based Shackletons Garden & Lifestyle Centre has completed the expansion of its Ribble Valley site with the opening of a new 17,500 sq ft building. The project has been funded by NatWest in Blackburn.
