Johnson maintains progress though store closures ahead
Runcorn-based Johnson Service Group has reported a strong performance in its work wear rental business leading to a 17 per cent rise in first half pre-tax profit. It made an adjusted pre-tax profit of £6.2m in the six months to 30 June - the equivalent figure was £5.3m for 2009.

The business and assets of North West Precision Forms have been sold out of administration to a new company founded by Gavin Bewley and Colin Keal of BK Consultants, which specialises in acquiring distressed businesses.

Stiebel Eltron in green deals
Wirral-based renewable energy products manufacturer Stiebel Eltron has completed nine installation contracts across the UK. It says it has been working in the domestic and commercial sectors to provide "green energy and home comfort products" to both retro-fit and new build projects.

AIMES secures £50k loan
Liverpool-based IT company AIMES Grid Services has secured a £50,000 enterprise finance guarantee (EFG) loan from NatWest, as part of a £100,000 infrastructure investment to support the development of new services.

Givaudan to leave Wirral
Swiss food manufacturer Givaudan is to close its Bromborough factory with the loss of 150 jobs, it has been confirmed. The move, subject to employee consultation, comes as the savoury flavours producer has decided to open a new factory in Hungary.

LEAD boosts small businesses
Nearly 250 owners of small businesses in the North-West have graduated from the Northwest Regional Development Agency's LEAD programme, it has been announced. LEAD is a leadership development programme which was designed specifically for small business owners by Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) with the support of the NWDA.

Regen boss to be shared on Merseyside
Knowsley Council is to share its regeneration director with Liverpool City Council, it has been announced. The "temporary move", agreed by leaders of the two authorities, means Nick Kavanagh, currently executive director of regeneration, economy and skills at Knowsley Council, will work for both councils.
