Fitzgerald to take chief executive role
Liverpool City Council’s hunt for a new chief executive has ended with the appointment of Ged Fitzgerald. He is the current chief executive of Lancashire County Council and will take up the new role in February. Joe Anderson, leader of the city council, described the appointment as a “real coup” for Liverpool.

Character DPM buys Paramount
Liverpool-based direct marketing company Character DPM Group has bought Stockport-based Paramount Print Group out of administration in a deal negotiated by administrators from accountancy firm Grant Thornton. The consideration was not disclosed.

LEP successes hailed by outgoing RDA
The success of the four successful local enterprise partnership bids from the North West has been hailed by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA). The RDA added that it hoped a solution would emerge in Lancashire where all three competing bids failed to progress to the next stage.

Mouchel losses deepen
Outsourcing firm Mouchel, which has three Liverpool offices, has experienced a deepening in annual losses. Mouchel, which develops infrastructure for councils and government agencies, says revenue has dropped sharply in the year to July.

Nineteen die at work in North West
Fewer people in the North West are being seriously or fatally injured at work, says the Health and Safety Executive. There were 3,215 major workplace injuries recorded in the region last year, compared to 3,321 in 2008/9. There were also 19 deaths - four fewer than the previous year.
