Trio of West Mids LEP proposals discarded
Gaping holes have been left across the West Midlands as three of its LEP submissions were rejected. Business secretary Vince Cable shocked the region yesterday by dismissing submissions from the Black Country, Worcestershire and its districts and Business Voice West Midlands. George Lord, chairman of the Worcestershire Leaders' Board, said his organisation was “disappointed and surprised” at the government’s decision.

Premier takeover for Regent
Contract cleaning provider Regent has diversified into the security services market with the acquisition of Leicester-based Premier Security Services. Regent, headquartered in Coventry, is owned by French parent company Samsic.

Wragge advises €3.6bn German deal
The Birmingham office of Wragge & Co has advised on two multi-million pound deals. The firm advised a German pharmaceutical wholesaler on its €3.6bn refinancing and Smiths News on a £135m banking facility.

Warwick targeted for £6m recycling plant
A materials reclamation facility (MRF) worth £6m is to be constructed at a new recycling centre in Warwick. Once complete, the MRF is expected to sort 39,000 tonnes of material each year.

Radical approach will deliver growth, says Clegg
The government has outlined its plan for promoting economic growth across England and helping those that have been hit hardest by the public spending cuts. As business secretary Vince Cable confirmed that 24 LEPs in England had been accepted, deputy prime minister Nick Clegg launched the £1.4bn regional growth fund. Speaking to Insider, Clegg described the government’s actions as “a radical new approach”.
