£10m deal struck at Insider event
A meeting at a Midlands Business Insider event led to a deal between The Cube and Sanguine Hospitality to develop a £10m hotel, spa and restaurant development at the landmark Birmingham building. The development incorporates a Marco Pierre White restaurant, Steakhouse Bar and Grill, a roof terrace and sky bar and four-star Indigo hotel with member-only health club and spa.

G Casino relaunches
The G Casino Walsall has relaunched after a £1.5m investment into the business. The casino said the relaunch has created up to 20 jobs in the local area, across all levels of the business, adding to the 75-strong team already in place.

1,042 redundancies as Auto Windscreens closes
Auto Windscreens, which has a major distribution hub in Birmingham, is to close after liquidators were unable to sell the business. Almost 1,100 employees have been made redundant.

Transport investment vital to regional growth - Osborne
Chancellor George Osborne has told Insider that improvements to transport bring better benefits to regional economies than regional development agencies and other business support initiatives. He said: “The high speed rail link has the opportunity to change the economic geography of the country. It will bring parts of the North and the Midlands close to the centre.”

Sales fall at WH Ireland

The economy declined by a bigger margin during the final three months of 2010 than first expected, figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed.
