Coventry development "much needed boost" for region
Business leaders have welcomed the £250m development of Coventry Airport as being of benefit to "the whole of the West Midlands". The airport's owner Sir Peter Rigby detailed two development projects for the site regarding the airport and its infrastructure and the creation of a technology office park. The chief executive of Coventry City Council described the scheme, which is set to generate 10,000 jobs across the region, as "a much needed boost".

The Binding Site sold to Nordic Capital
The Binding Site has been acquired by Nordic Capital Fund VIII. The medical technology organisation, which recently moved to a new location in Birmingham city centre, has been bought for an undisclosed sum.

Staffline takes on FourstaR
Outsourcing organisation Staffline has continued its acquisition quest with the purchase of Solihull-based recruitment company FourstaR Employment and Skills. Nottingham-headquartered Staffline bought the company for £3m.

Balfour Beatty moves to Solihull
Balfour Beatty Construction Northern is relocating to Blythe Valley Park in Solihull. The company said the move from Birmingham was made to offer "an improved working environment for employees and better access to other parts of the country".

Cannock housing scheme approved
Plans to build 75 houses in Cannock have been given the green light. Birmingham-based St Modwen will demolish the former Coal Board buildings on the 40,000 sq ft Rumer Hill site to make way for the development.

Social enterprise centre gets go-ahead
Up to 100 apprenticeship places will be created after the green light was given for the construction of a new social enterprise training centre. The £500,000 facility in Newcastle-under-Lyme will be run by social enterprise training provider PM Training.

Enterprising jobs boost for Birmingham
Forty-six jobs have been created in south west Birmingham after the creation of five social enterprises in the region. The Initiative for Social Entrepreneurs (iSE) provided support and training for the new ventures.

Translation People enters German market
The Translation People, based in Birmingham, has launched an office in Germany. The expansion comes after the translation service provider experienced an increase in annual turnover of 75 per cent in 2010.

Midlands employees are among those taking an average of ten days unscheduled leave each year. According to research from PwC in the Midlands, this level of absenteeism costs British business approximately £32bn every year.
