Creative boost needed in Midlands, says Oscar nominee
A Staffordshire effects specialist nominated for an Oscar has told Insider there should be more opportunities to get involved with creative businesses in the West Midlands. Peter Bebb, nominated for his work on Hollywood blockbuster Inception, said the prospects of breaking into the industry were weighted far more heavily towards those willing to work in London.

CPP in £27m talks to buy Spyker
Coventry-based manufacturer CPP is in negotiations to buy a Dutch sportscar company in a deal worth about £27m. CPP has signed a memorandum of understanding with Holland-based Spyker Cars NV to acquire its assets for €32m.

Holiday Inns undergo refinancing deal
Two West Midlands hotels have been subject to a debt refinancing deal backed by Clydesdale Bank. The two Holiday Inn hotels in Solihull and Stratford-upon-Avon were included in the deal arranged by parent company QMH.

The £66m Bournville College at Longbridge has reached completion with St Modwen, Shepherd Construction and the college celebrating its topping out. The new college is scheduled to be completed by September 2011, in time for a new intake of students.

Alstom Grid boosted by £18m contract
Alstom Grid, based in Stafford, has been awarded a contract worth £18m by the National Grid. The engineering group is set to design, supply and commission two booster units which will control the supply of power on electricity transmission networks.

One in four board members should be women - Davies
Lord Davies has called on FTSE 350 companies to boost the percentage of women at the board table to 25 per cent by 2015. Business secretary Vince Cable said he welcomed Davies' report which also calls on FTSE 350 companies to set their own targets for increasing female representation on their boards by 2015.
