Keane Consult joins forces with Projex
A merger between Birmingham construction cost consultant Keane Consult and Projex Building Solutions is set to create new jobs and continued expansion across the country, Insider has been told. Glen Cooke, partner of the new business, said the opening of a new office in Henley-in-Arden was the beginning of a venture which could grow to "cover the UK" over the coming years.

Office take-up falls within public sector
Office take-up from the public sector declined 13 per cent in Birmingham in 2010. According to research from property agent CBRE, expired leases result in "opportunities to consolidate into more efficient buildings" resulting in the downturn.

Five West Midlands SPAR stores from the estates of A F Blakemore and Son and Capper & Co are up for sale. The stores, in Kings Norton, Lye, Rednal, Rugby and Wylde Green, are being marketed by Christie + Co.

Businesses 'overwhelmingly' approve HS2, says chamber
Almost three-quarters of businesses in Birmingham and Solihull are in favour of the planned high-speed rail link (HS2). According to research from the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, 72 per cent of businesses believe HS2 will open up inward investment, employment and economic prosperity opportunities to the region.

Recruitment company hired for MoJ deal
Edgbaston-based recruitment company Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) has been awarded a contract to work with the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). Through the four-year contract, the company will work with young offenders across the region.

Shares in UK Coal, the coal mining giant with operations in Coventry and Nottinghamshire, have plummeted in value after the loss-making company told the Stock Exchange it had endured a "further year of poor operational performance".
