LEPs must avoid segregation, says Worcestershire boss

The West Midlands LEPs must work together to ensure the region does not become an area of "segregated islands". That's the view of Peter Pawsey, newly appointed chairman of the Worcestershire LEP. He told Insider: "Of course there will be disadvantages to not having a regional body [such as Advantage West Midlands], but this is what we've got and we must make the most of it." Pawsey also discussed the LEP's enterprise zone proposal for South Kidderminster, which could create up to 5,000 jobs for the region.

Airport jobs boost with £5m investment
Eurojet Aviation is ploughing £5m into an expansion at Birmingham Airport. The aircraft management company will construct a 41,000 sq ft complex and aims to create 50 jobs through the scheme.

Smethwick in affordable housing boost
Work has started on a £3m affordable housing development in Smethwick. Family Housing is working in partnership with Lovell to develop the site at Bearwood Road, which will have a mixture of three and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments.

Sales stagnant at Sanderson Group
Sanderson Group, the software and IT services business, has recorded a slight drop in revenue to £13.1m for the six months to 31 March. The Coventry-based company said it "continued to be impacted" by the slow pace of the UK recovery.

Record turnover at Browne Jacobson
Midlands law firm Browne Jacobson has posted a 'record' set of year-end results to 30 April 2011. The firm, which has offices in Birmingham and Nottingham, said turnover rose 6.3 per cent on its 2010 results to £35.2m.

Administrators called to C&G Concrete
The Midlands office of PwC has been appointed to handle the administration of Lincolnshire-based C&G Concrete. Administrators Eddie Williams and Matthew Hammond said the business had faced "significant challenges", in particular the adverse weather conditions at the end of 2010.

Inflation rise is further setback, says chamber
An increase in inflation to 4.5 per cent will "more than likely" result in a rise in interest rates, according to the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
