MIRA unveils £300m expansion plan
MIRA, the advanced engineering, research and testing facility located near Nuneaton, will today unveil plans to develop its 850-acre site. The proposed £300m expansion could become the most advanced transport technology facility in Europe and create more than 2,000 jobs over a ten-year period. George Gillespie, chief executive of MIRA, told Insider the company was already holding talks with interested parties to move to the site, and would submit final planning proposals by the end of March.

Lafarge announces Anglo American joint venture
Birmingham-based construction giant Lafarge has joined forces with Anglo American to combine their UK contracting businesses. The joint venture, which will include the Lafarge subsidiaries and Wolverhampton-based Tarmac, is expected to generate recurring synergies of £60m per year.

72 RGF proposals from West Midlands
West Midlands organisations submitted 72 proposals for the first round of Regional Growth Fund (RGF) bidding. The region put forward 16 per cent of the total bids received by the panel - the second highest number in the UK.

£1.5m investment for West Mids churches
More than £1.5m will be invested in 23 places of worship in the West Midlands. The grant, from the Heritage Lottery Fund, will fund development and refurbishments at grade I and II listed buildings across the region.

West Mids lawyers head up Twitter law firm
Three West Midlands law firms have helped set up and run what is believed to be the UK’s first Twitter-based legal service. Lawyers at Silks Solicitors, AJR Solicitors and Quality Solicitors CMHT have joined forces to offer free legal advice to businesses and individuals in 140 characters or fewer through the social media platform. The lawyers are part of the team behind @thelegaloracle, which founder Nick Jervis told Insider could become a “commonplace” feature of UK law firms.

Birmingham-based Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has secured a deal with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to be the exclusive supplier of tyres for a new helicopter.
