Mixed bag of growing business in the Midlands
The Midlands economy is becoming an increasingly mixed bag, according to the Midlands Business Insider’s Growth 100 report. The top ten growing companies from across the region included three from the food sector, alongside businesses in the ICT, sports, clothes retail and manufacturing games. The report chronicles the region’s fastest growing companies based on five-year turnover figures.

Umeco remains in talks to sell supply chain arm
Umeco, the Leamington Spa-based supplier to the aerospace and defence industries, has said this morning that it is still holding talks about selling the supply chain arm of the business. The news comes as the company revealed revenue across the company in the four months to 31 January 2011 was £152.8m, 15.3 per cent higher than that achieved over the same period last year.

The Mercia Fund launches medical spin-off
Birmingham-based venture capitalist The Mercia Fund has helped form a spin-off company from medical company PsiOxus. The Mercia Fund has ploughed an undisclosed investment into the Native Antigen Company (NAC), which will also be based in Birmingham.

£50m Coventry development revealed
Plans to transform part of Coventry city centre have been unveiled. The £50m project, which was revealed by Insider last month, will include the development of the former Royal Mail Sorting Centre and the construction of a leisure centre and retail units.
