Multimillion-pound casino and hotel plans debated
Plans for a casino, three-star hotel and 300-apartment scheme in Birmingham city centre are being recommended for approval by city council officers. The proposals are set to create more than 220 jobs and generate annual revenues of nearly £9m for the city. The mixed-use scheme design, which also includes a car showroom and office space, will go before councillors for outline planning approval on Thursday.

Birmingham-based engineer Metalrax has returned to profit, it revealed this morning. Following a pre-tax loss of £2.7m in its 2009 results, the specialist engineering supplier recorded a £2.1m profit in its year-end results for 2010.
