First five Birmingham RGF bids unveiled
The first batch of projects from Birmingham City Council which are seeking cash from the £1.4bn Regional Growth Fund (RGF) have been unveiled. If approved by city cabinet members at a meeting on Monday, the five schemes will aim to seek a total of £35.9m. The largest project which has been recommended for submission is a scheme from Finance Birmingham looking for £20m aimed at helping small businesses.

Catalyst to continue Midlands investment in 2011
Corporate finance adviser Catalyst said it had its “best ever year” in 2010, having completed more than 20 deals worth a total in excess of £750m. The firm advised on Midlands-based transactions such as the buyouts of Synseal and AIM Aviation over the past year.

Coventry construction scheme to create 40 jobs
Forty construction jobs are expected to be generated with a building project to create new homes in Coventry. Seventy new homes will be constructed on the brownfield site in Windmill Road for Jephson Homes Housing Association by Cassidy Group.

Plain skating for Silver Blades redevelopment
A new ice rink is being planned for Birmingham’s Pershore Street after renewed planning permission was secured by consultant CSJ Brooke Smith. The former Silver Blades venue will be redeveloped after the original planning consent was extended.

Arena Capital office scheme extended
Birmingham’s major mixed-use regeneration scheme Arena Central has received planning permission to increase the office space at the development from 500,000 sq ft to no more than 800,000 sq ft.

Government agrees "major" Coventry lease
The government has taken a 15-year lease on a unit in Greyfriars Road, Coventry. The lease, of more than 13,000 sq ft of space, is believed to be the biggest agreed in the city centre in the past 12 months.

Bowmer and Kirkland wins Ocado mega shed contract
Bowmer & Kirkland, the Heage-based construction company, has won the contract to build Ocado’s second huge distribution hub at Dordon, North Warwickshire, in a move that will bring 2,200 jobs to the area.
