London base "will not hinder" LEP boss

The chair of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP has told Insider that the fact he is based in London could hugely benefit the region. Andy Street, the managing director of John Lewis, said that the need to be connected with the capital and central government would be eased and the region would not be “inward looking” as a more localised organisation might be.

Allied Healthcare buys ScotHomecare
Allied Healthcare, headquartered in Staffordshire, has acquired ScotHomecare for £2.5m. The deal was advised by Birmingham-based law firm Mills and Reeve.

Clearwater advises €1bn worth of deals
Birmingham-based Clearwater Corporate Finance has advised on 31 deals in the past year with a total value of more than €1bn (£873.7m). The firm said it recorded a “landmark” final quarter during which 13 deals were completed.

Hotel and retail scheme gets green light
Proposals for a hotel and retail scheme including a restaurant and apartments have been given the go-ahead by Lichfield District Council. The final element of the £14m redevelopment of Friary Outer was approved only weeks after the green light was given for the project’s housing scheme.

Purnell "in negotiations" over Birmingham site
Michelin-star chef Glynn Purnell has said his Edgbaston restaurant The Asquith “will be back” after being forced to close its doors following six months of trading. However, Purnell said he was now in advanced negotiations regarding a new location in Birmingham city centre.

Walton reveals development plans
Walton Homes, based in Lichfield, has announced plans to launch six new sites across the Midlands before the end of 2011. The housebuilder said that plots in Warwickshire and Staffordshire had been targeted for development.

Acquisition lends turnover boost to Inn Express
Warwickshire drinks and snacks supplier Inn Express said it is on target to reach a £5.5m turnover this year. The company said it would increase income by £800,000 compared to last year after acquiring a nearby competitor.
