West Mids gears up for MIPIM
The UK’s regional centres are gearing up for a big inward investment push at the world’s largest property exhibition from tomorrow – and Insider will be there to report. Birmingham’s programme will include presentations on the new city library and its rejigged Big City Plan. Pearson to buy EDI in £113m deal
Publishing group Pearson has agreed to acquire Coventry-based Educational Development International (EDI) for nearly £113m. Pearson, which owns the world's largest education business, said it had already received support for the deal from 30 per cent of EDI’s shareholders.

£775m research funding unveiled
A total of £775m is to be made available for research to help boost the NHS, the government has announced today (7 March 2011). The funding, to be made available over five years, aims to "secure the UK as a world leader in life sciences".

Modec enters administration
Coventry-based electric van maker Modec has entered administration, making about half of its workforce redundant. The Birmingham office of Zolfo Cooper has been appointed administrator to the company.
