West Mids still faces lending gap, says Investbx boss
Midlands companies seeking access to finance are still facing a “varied” picture, according to Sue Summers, chief executive of Finance Birmingham and new co-owner of Investbx. Speaking at an Insider round table event in Birmingham, Summers said the city council’s Business Loan Fund was assisting in filling the lending gap, but acknowledged there were still holes to fill.

Craegmoor bought by Priory Group
Worcester-based Craegmoor Group has been acquired by the Priory Group for an undisclosed sum. Craegmoor provides support services for people with learning disabilities and mental health issues.

Drpgroup snaps up MS Internet
Drpgroup, based in Worcestershire, has acquired Birmingham digital media specialist MS Internet. The move happened after the two teams worked together on several projects over the last 12 months, said drpgroup.

Co-op swoops for DAB Stores
DAB Stores, the garage forecourt and supermarket business in Shropshire, has been acquired by The Co-operative Group. The deal, part of The Co-operative’s strategy to purchase 300 stores in three years, was completed for £1.6m.

Carillion signs £204m deals
Wolverhampton construction giant Carillion has won two facilities management contracts worth up to £204m. The contracts were agreed with Nationwide Building Society and Virgin Media.

Growth at the top of agenda, says PwC report
Private equity owned companies in the Midlands continued to grow turnover and staff numbers during the recession. That’s according to the latest report from PwC, which also suggested acquisitions were “firmly on the agenda” for the future.

Midcounties Co-operative records £26m trading profit
The Midcounties Co-operative has announced a 35 per cent increase in trading profit to a record £26m. The member-owned society said profits in its food division grew 30 per cent in its results for the year to 22 January 2011.

We live in 'worrying' times - BCC survey
The UK economic picture is "worrying" and the country is facing a fragile economic recovery. These findings were recorded despite a recent return to positive growth in the Coventry-based British Chambers of Commerce’s (BCC) 'Quarterly Economic Survey' that questioned 6,000 businesses from across the UK.
