Affordable housing scheme gets green light

Planning consultant CSJ Brooke Smith has secured planning consent for affordable new homes at Whitley Village in Coventry. Associate director Will Charlton told Insider that the scheme was “a huge boost to Coventry, as the region is in clear need of housing". Charlton added that across the region, housing was becoming a bigger issue.

West Mids' historic properties will open for free
More than 300 historic properties and places in the West Midlands will open their doors between 9 and 12 September. Locations such as Stourbridge Town Hall and the Beatties department store in Wolverhampton will be open to the public, free of charge.

West Midlands law firm Harris Cooper Walsh has appointed three new partners. The firm, which has offices in Solihull, Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon, said it will soon be announcing further growth and needs “the right people to drive the future of the business”.

Babywear business goes global
A Warwickshire-based baby clothing company is rapidly expanding into Europe and the Middle East. The 18-month old company, Lilly and Sid, is now expecting up to 40 per cent of its turnover to come from exports.

Two-thirds of Midlands businesses not paid on time
Sixty-one per cent of Midlands businesses are not getting paid on time. That’s according to the results of a survey commissioned by online debt recovery service positivecollections.co.uk. Its chief executive described the situation as "cause for concern".

RBS to close Telford office
Royal Bank of Scotland is to cut 3,500 jobs across the UK, with 12 offices under threat of closure in England. They include the bank’s operation in Telford, which has been earmarked for closure in 2012.

Wragge wins Harvard contract
Birmingham-based law firm Wragge and Co has been appointed full service legal adviser to AIM-quoted Harvard International. The firm will be the sole adviser to the electronic products supplier, which has an annual turnover of £77m.

Data Power expands with new division
Data Power, the Birmingham-based IT networking, infrastructure and electrical specialist, has invested £75,000 in expanding its business. The company aims to reach into the air conditioning sector after “direct demands” from its UK wide customer base.
