Insider celebrates best in dealmaking
The importance of securing finance and getting deals done have been highlighted with two major events in Northern Ireland. Insider's Northern Ireland Business of Finance Conference 2011 provided companies with expert guidance on how to fund their growth and the day culminated with the glittering Northern Ireland Dealmakers Awards 2011. The awards, held at The Europa Hotel in Belfast, attracted almost 200 professionals to celebrate the corporate finance industry's successes.

Dealmaker of the Year
Winner: Kevin Kingston of Northern Bank
Kingston is the first banker to win this accolade in a very long time, a very impressive feat in such a hard economic climate. Voters commended Kingston for his high level of activity. It was recognised that he has gone out looking for a new business when other banks have not been able to be so proactive.
Shortlisted: Ian Coulter from Tughans; Hal Wilson from Crescent Capital; Stephen Dawson from Arthur Cox; Johnny Webb from BDO; and Deirdre Terrins from Crescent Capital.

Deal of the Year
Winner: Moy Park’s acquisition of the O'Kane Group
The judges had a tough job as each deal had its own merits. However, the Moy Park deal clinched it because of the local factor - two locally owned companies came together to the benefit of the area and local advisers were used throughout the deal.
Shortlisted: W&R Barnett’s £67m purchase of Tate and Lyle's Molasses worldwide business, Ballyvesey Holdings Limited Group purchase of Morgan Elliott Group Limited and the acquisition of Lagan technologies by Kana

Business Funding Team of the Year
Winner: Crescent Capital
The absence of liquidity in the marketplace has been a barrier to doing deals, but Crescent Capital has continued to raise and invest money over the last couple of years, and throughout difficult times.

Corporate Banking Team of the Year
Winner: Northern Bank
Voters repeatedly praised Northern Bank for staying open for business throughout the hardest of times. It has remained extremely competitive and provided a lot of re-banking facilities allowing Northern Irish business to grow.

Corporate Law Firm of the Year
Winner: Arthur Cox
Well done to Alan Taylor and the Arthur Cox team, they were a very popular choice receiving a great deal of votes. The high calibre of the law firms in the Northern Ireland made this the most popular category in terms of number of votes received. Nominations were made by funders and advisers.

Corporate Finance Advisory Team of the Year
Winner: BDO
Shortlisted: Ernst & Young, KPMG, Beltrae Partners
BDO has been involved in a lot of the big deals over the last year. Described by one voter as “professional, precise and efficient” its approach has created a winning team.
