Lloyds TSB launches first Midlands Corporate Finance team
Lloyds TSB Corporate is to launch its first Midlands Corporate Finance team out of its Nottingham office. Liz Fuge and Stephen Fadian will move from The Royal Bank of Scotland to Lloyds. Andrew Corbett, area director, head of large corporate for the East Midlands, told Insider: We decided to set up the team because we saw a gap in our service offering. Weve been investing heavily over the past 18 months and winning business left, right and centre. This is a great opportunity for the new team. Corbett is now busy arranging the support team to Fuge and Fadian.

Experian sees sharp decline in M&A activity
Experian has released figures that show a sharp decline in mergers, acquisitions and IPO activity in the first six months of the year as issues with global financial capital markets finally catch up with deal activity. According to Corpfin, an Experian company specialising in corporate financial information, the number of deals in the Midlands fell 18 per cent in the first six months of this year to 346, while their overall value collapsed by 78 per cent from £22bn to £4.86bn, although the figures were distorted by the huge Alliance Boots deal in early 2007. graphic
Work Inc merges with Eastlake
Eastlake Group, the workplace interiors and property services company, has merged with Nottingham-based Work Inc Group, its biggest competitor, in an £8m deal funded by RBS. The new company, branded Eastlake Work Group, will have a UK-wide presence and a combined turnover of more than £75m, making it the biggest in the sector. It will employ 500 people across eight locations in Glasgow, Leeds, Belfast, Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle, Nottingham and London as well as having facilities management staff located on site with clients across the country. There are no planned redundancies. Eastlake Groups chief executive David Eastlake will be Eastlake Work Groups chief executive and majority shareholder, with Work Incs chief executive Craig Eastwood becoming executive chairman. graphic
GT motors to MBO
GT News, one of the countrys largest regional operators in the convenience and newsagent sector has undergone a management buyout funded by The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). The management team that assumes control of the business is led by chief executive Robert Morgan, supported by managing director Mark Titterton and finance director David Clarke. GT has the largest independent presence in the convenience and newsagent sector within the East Midlands and South Yorkshire and is based at the new Barlborough Links business park on the Derbyshire-Yorkshire border. graphic

Independent garage wins big
Beeston-based independent car garage Jim Steel Garage Services has been awarded a contract with Nottingham City Homes (NCH) worth £2m. Steel will provide maintenance and repair services for NCHs new fleet of 312 vehicles over the next five years. graphic

Good prospect for Rigby and Co
Commercial property and regeneration company Rigby and Co, has sold one of Pride Parks most recognisable office buildings. Working on behalf of Spirita, the company has sold the 12,000 sq ft No.1 Prospect Place, which is directly opposite Pride Park Stadium, to private Nottingham-based investors. The building was developed speculatively by Commercial Property Developments of Elland, Leeds in 2002 and was originally home to Walbrook Housing Association. It has now been sold for a figure in the region of £1.75m. graphic
Giltbrook has the edge
The first two retailers have started trading at the new 160,000 sq ft Giltbrook Retail Park, two miles west of junction 26 of the M1. Laura Ashley, the home furnishings, clothes and gift store, and Carpet Right have opened their doors to customers at the £70m site. Other stores opening over the coming months include a 30,000 sq ft Bhs and food outlets Subway, Starbucks and Frankie & Bennys. graphic
Stoford enters Leicester
Stoford Developments has taken advantage of pent-up demand for distribution space in the Midlands golden triangle by purchasing one of the last remaining prime employment sites in Leicester. The Birmingham developer has planning consent to build up to 265,000 sq ft of distribution and warehouse accommodation at the 12-acre Fairway Business Park in Sunningdale Road. The purchase was funded through Stoford Ventures in a 50/50 joint venture between Stoford and Uberior Ventures, the equity arm of Bank of Scotland Joint Ventures. graphic

Homes and Communities Agency announces director appointments
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has named its regional director for the East Midlands. Margaret Allen, currently Central field director at the Housing Corporation, will take up her role from 1 December. With more than 900 staff and an annual budget of about £5bn, the HCA will be a single national housing and regeneration agency. It brings together English Partnerships, the Housing Corporations investment arm and the Academy for Sustainable Communities. graphic
Nottingham Business School appoints new associate dean
Professor David Lamond, former director and chief executive of the Sydney Graduate School of Management (SGSM), has been appointed associate dean of Nottingham Business School at Nottingham Trent University. Professor Baback Yazdani, dean of Nottingham Business School, said: Were delighted to have appointed David. His experience, expertise and professional reputation will prove invaluable to the next phase of our development and enable new achievements for what is already one of the UKs most successful business schools. graphic
Defence best form of attack for Cartwright King
East Midland law firm Cartwright King has appointed Harry Bowyer as a criminal defence barrister. Bowyer, who has nearly 20 years experience at the bar, has joined from chambers in London where he worked in crime, prosecuting and defending clients including acting for the Crown Prosecution Service and Customs & Excise. In his role at Cartwright King he will be working as a higher court advocate. graphic

Nottingham-based independent insurance broker and financial adviser The Wilson Organisation has appointed Bryan Elliott as account executive to its private client team, where he will specialise in high-value household insurance. graphic
