New boss for troubled NDC
A temporary chief executive has stepped into the firing line at a troubled New Deal for Communities regeneration scheme in Nottingham. Nottingham City Council has appointed Stephen Lord, a charity director, as interim chief executive of the Neighbourhood Development Company, which manages the NDC programme in the Radford and Hyson Green districts. Lord will take over the post of Sam Tarff, who was suspended by the NDC board in 2007 pending an investigation by the partnership. The investigation has been completed, but its results have not been made publicly available. The NDC board is said to have descended into factions, and Nottingham City Council has warned that the government will consider withdrawing £10m of funding if the situation continues.

Jobs under threat at Lincolnshire housebuilder
Up to 90 jobs are in doubt at Lincolnshire-based construction company Kier Residential, which is to close its offices in Lincoln, and Pinchbeck, near Spalding. The job cuts will affect staff working for Kier Homes Northern in Lincoln and others at Allison Homes in Pinchbeck, who are part of the same group. Kier said it has held meetings with workers at both sites and a 90-day consultation is under way. Kier Group chief executive John Dodd has said he hopes some people under threat of losing their jobs can be deployed elsewhere.
Bringing up baby
Rutland-based Babybond, a provider of baby scanning services through centres across the UK, has raised more than £200,000 in investment from a consortium of investors led by the East Midlands Early Growth Fund, funded by the East Midlands Development Agency (Emda). The company has received more than £200,000 of investment. The Early Growth Fund invested £100,000, alongside investment from East Midlands Business Angels and Venture Investment Partners. The money will enable Babybond to implement a web booking system, increase telesales and speed up its expansion across the UK.

All change at Amco
Amco Corporation has continued to sell divisions, with the news that its construction, manufacturing and property investment and development businesses have been sold to the newly-formed Amco Group in a management buyout worth £9.4m. Amco Corporation will comprise mainly Billington Structures, a steelwork contractor whose turnover has grown from £16m in 1997 to more than £59m. Amco Corporation plans to change its name to Billington Holdings. The deal was supported by Endless. Amco Corporation was advised by the East Midlands teams at Grant Thornton and Shoosmiths.
East Mids dealmakers in rude health
The Derby-based healthcare team of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), along with lawyers from Browne Jacobson in Nottingham, have completed a management buyout for husband and wife team of North West St George Healthcare Group. RBS has provided the company with the funds to complete the MBO, along with additional funding that will allow the company to embark on a new venture at All Saints Hospital, in Oldham, which will expand its specialist care provision facilities across the North West. Browne Jacobson advised the bank on its investment in the buyout.

Gladman all over
Gladman Developments has launched the first phase of a £16m speculative office development in Newark, which is expected to help create more than 900 jobs. Sixty-five per cent of the 20,000 sq ft constructed as Phase 1, known as Millgate Court, is already under offer. In four phases, Gladman plans to build 91,590 sq ft of office space at Fernwood Business Park, Great North Road, in Balderton, next to the former Balderton Hospital. Fernwood Business Park is under development by Strawsons Property. Phase 2 will involve Millgate Court increasing in size to 43,170 sq ft. Phases three and four will include the construction of a further 48,420 sq ft in an adjoining scheme to be called Abbott Court.

Faithful & Gould expands carbon management team
The Nottingham office of international project manager and cost consultant, Faithful & Gould, is welcoming six carbon management specialists to its team. The carbon management team, which has transferred from Faithful & Goulds parent company Atkins, will support an existing team headed by Sean Lockie in London. The regional team will be led by Gail Scholes, supported by Divyesh Jansari, carbon management analyst; James Sharman, carbon management consultant; Lesley Smith, an assistant carbon management consultant; Ellie Cooper, senior carbon management consultant; and Attual Chand, in charge of energy and sustainable building design.
New chair for Medilink
Medilink East Midlands has appointed Keith Widdowson as its chairman. Widdowson has worked for companies in the UK, including Fisons, and has managed businesses in South Africa, Australia and Singapore.
Johnson means business
Nottingham-based construction company Morgan Ashurst has appointed Sarah Johnson as business development co-ordinator for the East Midlands. Johnson joins from construction company Bowmer and Kirkland where she began her career in 2004 as a document co-ordinator before transferring to the business development department in 2006.
