Experian boss on business aid mission

Experian chairman John Peace has told Insider that his main priorities as the newly-appointed high sheriff of Nottingham will be tackling the "big issue" of joblessness and raising the profile of the region's small businesses. Peace, who is boss of the data giant, said more focus needs to be given to aiding "not just big corporate companies, but smaller businesses which can grow and create new jobs".

G4S swoops for Guidance Monitoring
Guidance Monitoring, based in Leicester, has been acquired by G4S Regional Management. It was purchased as part of a deal for holding company Broomco. Guidance supplies offender monitoring technology to governments across the world.

Four hundred jobs generated with superstore go-ahead
The Meteor Centre in Derby has been given the green light for a 100,000 sq ft food store. The redevelopment is set to create about 400 jobs, said owner Land Securities, which received planning permission from the city council.

Corby warehouse sold to KEN Investments
BNP Paribas Real Estate has acquired an industrial unit on Cockerell Road, Corby. The £1.34m purchase was made on behalf of KEN Investments.

Mortgage lending at eight-month high
The number of mortgages approved by the UK's main banks hit an eight-month high in March, according to figures by the British Bankers' Association (BBA). But the numbers are still down on this time last year. The BBA said economy worries are having a negative impact on bank lending.

Concerns raised over slow GDP growth
The UK economy has returned to growth in the first three months of 2011. Gross domestic product grew by 0.5 per cent in the first quarter of the year, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said – however, East Midlands' business leaders have warned "concerns still remain".

Midlands insolvencies drop
There has been a fall in the number of businesses falling into administration in the Midlands, according to figures from accountancy firm Baker Tilly. Ninety-one companies failed in the first quarter of 2011 compared to 101 in the comparable 2010 period.
