Sheikh rails against "no win-no fee"
Leicestershire businessman Shahid Sheikh has said the rise of the "no win-no fee" culture in the UK has led to a breakdown of communication between management and staff which is "stifling enterprise". Speaking at an Insider round table event, Sheikh said: "Companies are now sometimes scared to take on new staff. In some cases a tribunal team is acting as a government-sponsored sales barrier for companies."

Yakub Chemist prescribed £350,000 funding
A Leicester-based pharmacy chain has bought new premises after securing a six-figure loan from Lloyds TSB Commercial. Yakub Chemist has tripled its space and said it expects to take on nine new members of staff.

A derelict former pub site has been converted into a retail scheme in Leicester. The £450,000 project on Stephenson Drive was carried out by Nottingham-based developer Sheppard Developments.

Sikh memorial gets go-ahead
Planning consent has been granted to build the world's first dedicated Sikh memorial. The National Sikh Holocaust and Shaheedi Memorial will be built in Derby to represent the millions of Sikhs who died in six holocausts and both World Wars.

Work has been completed on a £5.75m project to refurbish two buildings at the University of Birmingham. The refurbishment was carried out by Nottingham-based Clegg Construction.
