Cutts cuts as Cameron and Clegg visit Nottingham
It was a day of political drama in Nottingham yesterday, with David Cameron and Nick Clegg making a surprise visit to two city schools. More than 400 people also protested outside County Hall as Nottinghamshire County Council met to vote on its controversial budget cuts.

Harries leaves DTZ for new venture
The office head at DTZ in Nottingham has resigned and set up on his own, it has emerged. Tim Harries is leaving to pursue his own interests and James Hall, industrial agency, has returned to his previous employer local firm Geo Hallams and Sons as a partner.

HCA ploughs £560,000 into regen project
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has invested £560,000 into the Market Place buildings in Kettering town centre. The cash injection is in addition to the £2.5m growth area funding already invested in the project.

Leicester-based architect rg+p has been appointed to refurbish the city’s YMCA. With the latest contract, the firm says it is now working on more than £22m-worth of new projects.

Maternity vote to cost region £106m a year
East Midlands firms face an additional annual bill of almost £106m after MEPs voted through controversial proposals for new parents. That’s according to the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, which is now seeking a meeting with East Midlands MEPs to discuss the issue.

Sales up at Pendragon
Car sales giant Pendragon said it is “cautiously optimistic” about the outturn for 2010 after it revealed a 27 per cent increase in its new car sales this morning. The Nottingham-based company, which owns the Evans Halshaw and Stratstone brands, said that its used car volume was up by 7 per cent over the third quarter of the year.

Nottingham University appoints new Dean
Professor Martin Binks has been appointed dean of Nottingham University Business School. He works at the university as a professor of entrepreneurial development and has "pioneered" the university’s connections with small and medium sized businesses in the region.

Croots feasts on top industry award
A Derbyshire farm shop has been named as one of the UK’s best independent food retailers in the 2010 Observer Food Monthly awards. Croots, near Duffield, was one of nine shops in the UK to be named a runner-up in the category.

Four deals makes Positive Outcome
Nottingham-based Positive Outcomes has secured four new contracts with brands including children’s charity Barnardo’s and Derbyshire chocolatier Thorntons. The national training provider has also signed a deal with frozen food giant Iceland to train 800 of its staff across 30 stores.
