East Midlands escapes the brunt of the axe
Despite the billions of pounds sliced from governmental departments through Chancellor George Osborne's Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR), the East Midlands “doesn’t fare too badly”. That’s according to Stephanie Allen, head of the public sector at PwC in the Midlands. Alongside all the funding committed to the region’s capital programmes, Allen told Insider that the region will benefit from the low interest rates which have been guaranteed.

Deadline looms for Ilkeston Town bids
Interest in buying Ilkeston Town Football Club has been “encouraging”, according the club’s liquidator. Dean Nelson at business adviser Smith Cooper said he has received “a higher level of interest than originally expected”.

Metclad lifted by MBO
Roofing and cladding contractor Metclad has completed a management buyout (MBO). The purchase of the Nottingham-based company was led by managing director Marvin Village.

Evac+Chair International, based in Birmingham, has acquired Derby-headquartered APB Products. The sum of the deal was not disclosed.

Shakespeare Centre makes the grade
The Shakespeare Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon has been listed as a Grade-II building by the tourism and heritage minister John Penrose. English Heritage said it recommended the building be listed partly in recognition of its cultural connection with the great writer and poet.

BAM appoints engineers for £2m university project
Northampton-based Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services has been awarded a £2m contract for mechanical and electrical services by BAM Construction, headquartered in Coventry. BAM is the developer behind The New Bramall Concert Hall at the University of Birmingham.

Trio in at Westfield
Three units have been let at the Westfield Derby Shopping Centre. Streetwear retailer Henleys, jewellery producer Love Forever and fashion retailer FM Boutique have all signed leases with surveyor Fisher Hargeraves Proctor.

Waitrose creates 1,000 jobs
Berkshire-based Waitrose is to create 1,000 new jobs in the next three months, it has been confirmed. The company says the roles will be created at new supermarkets in Oadby, Leicestershire; York and the Isle of Wight.

New recruit at Langleys
Lincoln-based law firm Langleys has appointed Rob Ripley as head of dispute resolution. Ripley joins from Keeble Hawson, where he was head of litigation and dispute resolution.
