Corah development to form new core of Leicester
Plans for a £200m development of the former Corah factory that will kick-start the transformation of a neglected part of Leicesters city centre have been submitted to the city council. An outline application by The Bowbridge Group for the biggest regeneration project in Leicester since Highcross includes proposals for a swimming pool and bowling alley, as well as an outdoor winter ice-rink, waterside family homes, shops, supermarket, medical facilities and offices. If approved work could begin next summer, with completion in 2014. Local developer and site owner Bowbridge Group has been working with planning consultancy Matrix Associates for two years to develop the plans, part of a 15-year strategy for the area between St Margarets bus station and Abbey Park. The developer intends to reinstate roads that were severed by the construction of the ring road, reconnecting the area to the rest of the city.
