East Mids companies celebrate Queen’s Award success
Fourteen East Midlands companies have been named as Queen’s Award Winners for Enterprise this morning. Eight of the companies were commended for their success in international trade, five for their use of innovation and one for practices in sustainable development. Among the winners in the international category was Coalville-based Lastolite, which told Insider the export market has kept the company thriving throughout the downturn.

Custom Group ties up MBI
Ilkeston-based Custom Group has undergone a management buy-in (MBI). Through the deal, which was funded by NatWest and Connect Midlands, Mark Johnson and Russell Dallison will become shareholders of the curtain manufacturer.

A Nottingham business which manufactures posters has received funding support from HSBC. Peelable Posters secured investment through the government's Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) scheme.

Law firm Irwin Mitchell, which has an office in Leicester, is to restructure so it can seek external capital and accelerate its growth plans. The move to become an alternative business structure (ABS) is designed so the firm can take advantage of changes to the legal profession set to be introduced by the Legal Services Act.

Sales spike at Sports Direct
Sales at sports clothing and equipment retailer Sports Direct have risen more than 10 per cent to £236m in the nine weeks to 27 March. The Mansfield-based company said the results "highlight the strength" of its retail division, which took £200m during the period.
