Sales soar at Booker
Online sales at wholesaler Booker reached £526m over the last year, the company said this morning. In its year-end statement to 25 March 2011, the company said internet sales had shot up 29 per cent compared to its 2010 results. The Wellingborough-based retailer also said pre-tax profit had soared 25 per cent in the 12 month period to £71.4m.

AFI completes Foxes takeover
Leicester City Football Club have finally settled their long-running ownership saga after Asia Football Investments (AFI) took sole ownership of the club. AFI upped its share from 80 to 100 per cent after buying out minority shareholder Cronus Sports Management.

Chartered accountant MacIntyre Hudson has merged with Leicester tax practice Powrie Appleby. MacIntyre Hudson, which has an office in Leicester, said the move underlined its commitment "to the strategically important Leicestershire region".

University launches £14m conference centre plans
The University of Leicester has unveiled a £14m project to develop a Grade II-listed building into a residential conference venue. It is the third multimillion-pound venture that the university has announced its involvement in during the last two months.
