Interfleet celebrates after Oz win
Derby-based rail consultancy Interfleet Technology is celebrating after being appointed by the government of New South Wales to be shadow operator for Sydneys £6bn North West Metro. Interfleet will provide a team to oversee project planning and procurement. We are delighted to have won such a prestigious assignment, said group managing director David Rollin. We were pitted against some of the strongest competition in the world. This appointment vindicates our strategy of establishing the Australian business in 1997. The North West Metro is part of Sydney Link, a series of major transport projects designed to transform Sydneys public transport services.

Nasmyth on acquisition trail after £20m ABL deal
Nasmyth, the precision engineering group, has acquired four Midlands businesses. It has bought Coventrys JS Chinn Group, a set of four engineering companies that make aero-engine and airframe fabrications. Nasmyth has also bought Towerfield Plating, a metal surface treatment supplier in Essex. The move came after Nasmyth agreed a £20m asset-based lending facility with Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance. The overall group supplies products to niche sectors such as aerospace, healthcare and specialist instrumentation. Its companies include Bulwell Precision Engineers, Doughty Precision Engineering, GEB Surface Treatments, Henton Engineering and Chinn Engineering, based in Nottingham and Hinckley. graphic
Rescue package breathes life into Routes Healthcare
Accountants and lawyers in Leicester have saved jobs in just two days in a deal to rescue a healthcare business from administration. Corporate recovery specialist Begbies Traynor and law firm Spearing Waite put together the rescue package, in which Birminghams Routes Healthcare Personnel has been sold to a mystery buyer. Spearing Waite was called in to help and a rescue package was put together saving 28 full-time jobs and preserving the possibility of placements into the healthcare sector for more than 500 people. graphic

ScottishPower takes credit from Experian
Energy giant ScottishPower has appointed Nottingham information services company Experian in a three-year deal to win business customers in the SME and industrial and commercial sectors. ScottishPower will use Experians commercial credit application processing system. graphic
RH Group shakes off economic gloom
Nottinghams RH Group has announced a set of record results, shaking off pressure from the high cost of fuel and slower economic growth. The UKs largest European freight operator reported a pre-tax profit of £3.5m for the year to 31 December 2007 up 20 per cent. Turnover was £122.3m, up 3 per cent from the previous year. graphic

Davidson Group buys Melbourne resi site
The Davidson Group, the Bardon developer, has bought a 9.4-acre site at Melbourne to build up to 130 homes. Land director Sarah Whetton said: Weve carefully considered the site constraints and are confident we can deliver a sympathetic residential development that is in keeping with the Georgian characteristics of Melbourne and the surrounding rural area. graphic
Chaucer starts new chapter at NG2
Chaucer Holdings has taken a full repairing and insuring ten-year lease on the 4,000 sq ft unit 4A of The Triangle on Miller Birchs NG2 business park in Nottingham, at a rent understood to be about £20 per sq ft. It will trade under the name of Richard Egger Insurance. Innes England acted as agent on the deal. Miller Birch is now planning the fourth phase of the Triangle, comprising a further 27,800 sq ft of offices. graphic
TBS commits to Belper
Software company TBS is to remain in Belper and create jobs after moving to a new £1.5m headquarters at Radleighs Brook Park development. Radleigh, based at Pride Park in Derby, completed a freehold sale of the building to TBS, providing the company with a two-storey 10,000 sq ft purpose-built premises more than double the size of its previous site on Derby Road. TBS commercial director Jon Poynton said: It was vitally important to us that we relocated within the town rather than moving to a business park. This move will enable us to retain our staff and generate employment. graphic

Medilink appoints new business development manager
Medilink, the organisation set up to support the East Midlands bioscience and healthcare sector, has appointed a business development manager. Costa Philippou has joined the Nottingham-based organisation from the East Midlands International Trade Association (Emita) where he was project manager. Prior to that he was general manager of a Kenyan company which specialised in importing and marketing of musical products. graphic
Langleys strengthen Commercial division
Law firm Langleys has appointed Tony Maione as partner in its commercial division in Lincoln. Maione joins from a senior solicitor role within Warwickshire County Council, following in-house legal roles in industry. graphic
