Alliance Boots profits soar
Alliance Boots has said it will move its headquarters from Nottingham to Switzerland. A spokesperson for the company told Insider: There will be no job losses in Nottingham. We have invested £285m in the city and our future is there its not a side swipe at Nottingham at all. The news came as Alliance Boots recorded profits of £771m for the year to the end of March, a rise of 20.3 per cent. Stefano Pessina, the Italian billionaire chairman of the pharmaceutical company, said: These results demonstrate Alliance Boots has made good progress and delivered an excellent financial performance. Were investing significantly in the group for the long term and Im confident that were on track to build the worlds leading pharmacy-led health and beauty group.

Insider named top Midlands publication
Insider has been named Midlands Magazine of the Year. The magazine won the title at the Midlands Media Awards, held at Birminghams International Convention Centre, beating four other shortlisted publications. Editor Kurt Jacobs and staff writer Sam Metcalf were shortlisted for Business Journalist of the Year.

Assets in Earl Shilton Building Society, the oldest in Leicestershire, have increased by almost £4m to more than £96m. Savers balances also increased by more than £4.5m. Chief executive Neville Thompson said: Although its been a challenging year, a successful level of mortgage business has been attracted to the society. More than £23m was advanced to borrowers to buy, refinance or improve properties the first time the society has topped the £20m mark.

MBO at Sylmar Technologies
Sylmar Technology, the surface material supplier that has a manufacturing facility in Somercotes, Derbyshire, has been bought out by its management. The team comprises Peter Holt, who has been on Sylmars board of directors since 2006, and Martin Coles, who joined as finance director in 2007. Lead advisory services were provided by Tony Airey at Tenon, Leicester. Funding was provided by the Co-operative Bank. Austin Moore at HBJ Gateley Wareing advised the management team.
Willbond taps into tiles
Nottingham bathroom specialist and plumbers merchants G B Willbond has bought Chesterfield-based Spital Tile Co. Spital, a family business, has traded since 1937 and employs 17 staff. Willbond will take over the business on Spital Lane, Chesterfield, where it will continue the bathroom showroom and trade plumbing supplies operations. Advisors to Willbond were Berryman, Cooper Parry and The Royal Bank of Scotland. The vendors were represented by the Leicester office of Tenon and Spearing Waite.

Kettering in the zone
Kettering borough council and North Northants Development Company have put forward plans to improve the city centre into time for the 13,200 homes that will be built in the area by 2021. The £12m package of improvements are initially to the shopping areas of Kettering, starting with the Market Square area. Kettering town centre will be zoned into specialist quarters, with the High Street Brands zone along the High Street, The Yards, which will have niche and independent shops, a Restaurant Quarter around Market Place and a Heritage Quarter including the museum and library.
Snow joke for Stoke
Nottingham architects practice Marchini Curran Associates is seeking outline planning permission for a £150m mixed-use development in Stoke that will include a media centre and a dry ski slope. The media centre is the first phase of the 40-acre scheme submitted for detailed planning approval. Andrew Bull, project director, said: Its envisaged the media centre would feature a prominent five-storey building at the front of the site with the radio facility on the top floor. Theres potential for a 200-seat auditorium for live shows along with a TV centre. A warehouse distribution centre and a restaurant are also features of the project. The scheme is the first phase of the new Gateway Park development on the former Fenton Manor quarry site, a joint venture between Gilbert Commercial Properties and Resolution Land.
EDAW to masterplan Chesterfield Waterside
EDAW Manchester has been appointed by the Urbo Regeneration and Chesterfield borough council as masterplanner and landscape architect for Chesterfield Waterside, a 40 -cre brownfield site next to the town centre. EDAW will lead the design team for Urbo, a developer specialising in large urban regeneration projects in partnership with the public sector. Council leader Ray Russell said Waterside was the most significant development in Chesterfield for the past 40 years. A mixed-use urban waterside environment comprising residential, office, and retail and leisure space is proposed.
MCR reaches Albion
MCR Property Group has bought New Albion House in Leicester for £9.7m. Acquired from Friends Provident Life Assurance, the property is in the heart of the citys professional area and is occupied by BT. Michael Elliot Property Investment Consultants acted for MCR, while King Sturge advised Friends.
Newark bus station stays put
Newarks new bus station will not be built on The Wharf after all. A public consultation found many local residents objected to it being moved from its original location on Potterdyke. The developer is now changing its planning application to incorporate the changes. The Potterdyke development as a whole will bring more than £50m of investment into Newark and will include a new Asda store and retail units.

Octavian makes its own signing
Octavian Recruitment has appointed Mark Farrell as recruitment manager. Farrell will assume responsibility for the industrial and commercial division, which supplies temporary and permanent security-vetted personnel for UK organisations. He will be based at the Octavian Groups Colwick headquarters.
Vantis brings in new tax advisor
Vantis, the accounting, tax and business adviser, has appointed Stuart Drury as an associate partner in Leicester, and head of tax advisory services. Drury trained with Arthur Andersen in corporate tax, before spending a couple of years in industry in an international tax role, followed by five years as a partner in a niche practice in Birmingham.
