Small businesses make the difference, says Chamber of Commerce CEO
The chief executive of Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce has told Insider that the region is working through “a small business economy”. Martin Traynor said that small and medium-sized businesses were “making the difference” to Leicestershire and Rutland’s economic success. His comments came as research by Nottingham-based information company Experian rated Rutland ‘high’ in terms of business resilience.

Mansfield Town football club has been put up for sale. Board directors said that following a meeting at Field Mill, the board believed it had taken the club “as far as it can”, and is on the lookout for potential buyers.

£50m investment from green Leicester company
Our Generation, the Leicester-based renewable technology provider, has pledged £50m for school solar power. The private sector funding was secured by the company as a result of the government’s feed in tariff scheme, and will enable hundreds of schools to have solar electricity systems installed free of charge.

OmniBus sold to Canadian company
OmniBus Systems, the Loughborough-based software solutions provider, has been sold to Miranda Technologies, a Toronto Stock Exchange listed company, for an all-cash consideration of €36.4m (£30m). The company was sold by mid-market private equity firm Palamon Capital Partners.

Derbyshire-based Peveril Securities has purchased a 96,000 sq ft retail unit on a 2.2-acre site in Bury. The purchase was a joint venture with RED Partnerships.

Chamber welcomes interest rate freeze
Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the Bank of England’s decision to keep interest rates at 0.5 per cent for the 18th consecutive month. The bank’s monetary policy committee (MPC) also left its Quantitative Easing programme unchanged.
