Bishop heads to Nottingham as director for development
Nottingham City Council has ended its long search for a permanent director for development by poaching David Bishop from Bristol City Council. The move puts to an end the uncertainty surrounding the role which has been filled for the last 18 months on an interim basis by Jennifer Dearing. Speaking to Insider at the MIPIM conference in Cannes, Tim Garratt of Innes England said that the appointment "gives some certainty to the market and will add clarity to dealings with the council".

SWA plans expansion with funding package
SWA, a Thurmaston-based training and consultancy company, has secured a funding package from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). SWA, which has secured three new contracts worth more than £1m, said it hopes to expand its workforce with the investment.

EFG scheme lending sinks to new low
Lending under the government’s small business lending scheme - the Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) - has fallen by a further 31 per cent in the last three months. Figures are down from £144m in the third quarter to £99m in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to Aldermore.

Amber Valley Borough Council to sell HQ
Amber Valley Borough Council is to put its 54,000 sq ft headquarters up for sale, after a review in its working practices meant large parts of the building were left empty. The Nottingham office of King Sturge has been appointed to sell or lease the property, which is in Ripley.

HayssenSandiacre agrees HQ deal
HayssenSandiacre has agreed to a new ten-year lease at its UK headquarters on Lilac Grove in Beeston. The company, which manufactures packaging machines, was jointly advised by FHP in Nottingham and Colliers International in the USA.

Stone Events moves to Kibworth
Stones Events, based in Leicestershire, has relocated to a larger headquarters in Kibworth Business Park. The company has agreed lease terms on a 1,000 sq ft property, as it is preparing for future growth.

Business leaders call for HS2 scrapping
Twenty-one business leaders have written an open letter to the Daily Telegraph slamming the HS2 high-speed rail project as "a white elephant". Signatories, including Next chief executive Lord Wolfson, described the multibillion-pound scheme from London to Birmingham as "a vanity project".
