Secret millionaire steps in to rescue Thomas Fish
Collapsed Colwick-based construction company Thomas Fish & Sons has been sold to the Loughborough-based construction, development and restoration business Chek Whyte Industries. The deal will potentially see Chek Whyte Industries acquire Fishs £30m order books, which include £23m of orders relating to the South Reef development of apartments, offices and leisure facilities on Canal Street, Nottingham. Philip Lyon, business recovery partner at Mazars, who acted as administrator said: We are delighted to have found a local business to acquire Thomas Fish so quickly. When any business hits difficult times, it is crucial they take advice from recovery specialists at the earliest opportunity if they are to maximise the chances of turning the business around.

Loughborough Building Society has been honoured at the 2008 Leicestershire Business Awards where it won the Contribution to the Community category. The Society was presented with the award during a gala dinner attended by 650 local business leaders at De Montfort Hall in Leicester. graphic

MITIE caters for expansion
The Catering Partnership Holdings Group of Braunstone has been bought out by MITIE Facilities Services Group for an undisclosed sum. Established in 1987 by Harry Gadsden Catering Partnership has over 400 employees and in excess of 75 contracts bringing in an annual turnover of over £11.9m. A statement from MITIE said: The acquisition of Catering Partnership Holdings complements the geographical coverage of MITIEs existing catering business and results in the creation of an enlarged catering offering for MITIE, with annual revenues in excess of £32m. graphic
New jobs at Chilwell firm
Nottingham business advisory firm UHY Hacker Young has expanded its Chilwell office following the acquisition of a local accountancy firm. UHY acquired Beeston-based Tower House Associates and transferred its staff to the Chilwell office resulting in a 33 per cent staff expansion. graphic

Lovell receives Acclaim
East Midlands-based housing refurbishment specialist Lovell has started on £18m of Decent Homes housing refurbishment and other improvement work for Dales Housing and Seven Locks Housing, both members of Acclaim Housing Group. The work will be carried out in Derbyshire and Leicestershire. graphic
Hawksmead reveals development plans
Development company Hawksmead has revealed plans for a proposed major development at Oakham - and is inviting the public to comment on its proposals. The proposals could provide for up to 1,000 new homes on land between the existing town and the recently opened bypass. Around 300 of the homes could be subsidised to make them either available for low-cost renting or for some form of equity share scheme, under which people buy part of the home and rent the balance. As part of the proposed development there would be a new permanent enhanced home for the Rutland County Show and new improved facilities for the town's football, rugby and other clubs. graphic
Go-ahead given for major Derby schemes
Two major schemes in Derby city centre have received approval from the planning control committee. Wilson Bowdens mixed-use scheme Number One Cathedral Green 150,000 sq m of grade A office accommodation and 74 apartments with shops and cafés overlooking the River and re-landscaped Cathedral Green, and the first phase of Blueprints scheme, which will bring new office accommodation, apartments and retail space into the heart of the historic Cathedral Quarter, got the green light. graphic

Invest Leicestershire, part of Leicester Shire Promotions and the official inward investment agency for Leicester and Leicestershire, has made two new appointments to strengthen its key investor development work. Jo Pagett and Colm Fox join the organisation as investor developers and will be responsible for dealing with companies and investors looking to remain or expand within the city and county. graphic

Law firm Freeth Cartwright has announced that a record number of senior associates have been invited to become partners of the firm. The seven new partners include Mark Gradwell, Matthew Grocock, Atiyya Khaliq, Rena Magdani, Sophie Philippon-Thomas, Isobel Radford and Gillian Roberts.
