Jobs axed at Lloyds' Scunthorpe office
Lloyds Banking Group is to close its Scunthorpe office as part of plans to cut almost 1,000 jobs.
The bank, which is also shutting sites in Newcastle and Romford, said 990 employees will be affected in its group operations, group executive functions, risk, wholesale and insurance divisions.
A spokesman said: "Lloyds Banking Group is committed to working through these changes with employees in a careful and sensitive way.
"The group's policy is always to use natural turnover and to redeploy people wherever possible to retain their expertise and knowledge within the group.
"Where it is necessary for employees to leave the company, it will look to achieve this by offering voluntary redundancy.
"Compulsory redundancies will always be a last resort."
Lloyds said all affected employees were told of the news by their line managers yesterday (7 February 2012) and unions Accord, LTU, GMB and Unite were consulted prior to the announcement.
