Property industry needs a flexible modern approach - Peace

The Yorkshire property sector has to be flexible and provide a "modern product for modern times", according to Liz Peace, chief executive of the British Property Federation, who was addressing Insider's Yorkshire Property Industry Awards 2011.

"Don't let yourself be mesmerised by everyone telling you how big and dominant London is," said Peace.

"Businesses will always need property but we need to make sure we give our customers the customer service and the flexibility they want.

"We have got to be there with a modern product for modern times."

And Peace added: "We need partnership with the public sector, we have to put our strengths together."

Yorkshire's leading commercial property developers, investors, agents and advisers gathered at last night's awards.

Simon Lister of Savills, collecting the Deal of the Year Award, said: "We bought into Leeds.

"The market is showing signs of recovery. It is still cautious but we all need to chip away and remain positive."
