Welsh Government submits "robust" green bank bid

A "robust" bid for Cardiff to host the Green Investment Bank has been submitted by the Welsh Government.

Cardiff's proximity to London, the focus of the city's enterprise zone and the Welsh Government's commitment to creating a sustainable economy were cited by business minister Edwina Hart in support of the bid.

Hart, who met with UK business secretary Vince Cable last month to promote the Welsh bid, said she will continue to lobby Westminster to select Cardiff as home for the bank.

"As the closest capital city to London and its global financial marketplace, Cardiff embraces and epitomises the principles of the Green Investment Bank, offering a location at the heart of the city’s central business district with the UK’s only enterprise zone designated for financial and professional services," said Hart.

"Wales has already attracted a significant number of internationally-known businesses with strong green economic credentials and investment in Cardiff has transformed the city and the bay into one of the most exciting and dynamic capital cities in Europe.

"I have every confidence we can welcome the Green Investment Bank to Wales."
