Society raises Cardigan car park fund

Share | |

The Society to Sustain and Support the Rural Countryside has raised the funds to buy the Pwllhai site in Cardigan to build a car park. The group is understood to have agreed a deal to buy the land with contracts due to be exchanged next month.

The society offered a total of 2010 shares at £200 each to purchase the 0.72-acres site. A campaign was launched in June to acquire the old farmers’ co-op and surrounding buildings. It wants to build a car park and encourage people to shop in traditional local town shops.

It is understood that 300 peoples have bought shares and the share offer has been boosted by a bank loan.

The not-for-profit society has the backing of the town’s chamber of commerce and Ceredigion AM Elin Jones.
