Bristol occupancy rates down, says PKF
Occupancy levels in Bristol's hotels fell to 73 per cent in November, a new report from PKF Hotel Consultancy Services has claimed.
Levels fell 6.8 per cent down from 78.3 per cent in the same 2010 month, it found.
The drop in occupancy was coupled with a 1.2 per cent reduction in average room rate from £70.57 in November 2010 to £69.73 in November 2011. This resulted in room yields falling 7.9 per cent from £55.26 in November 2010 to £50.90 in November.
Neil Dimes, partner in charge of the South West office of PKF, said: "When viewed against a backdrop of plunging business and consumer confidence, lacklustre retail sales and the ongoing concerns about the future of the euro, these results suggest that Bristol hoteliers are having a tough time battling against the economic storms that are effecting all parts of the UK economy.
"However, hotel managers appear to have learnt the lessons from 2008-9 and are much better equipped to respond effectively this time around."
Across the UK, occupancy levels grew 1 per cent in November 2011, from 69.7 per cent to 70.4 per cent. The average room rate fell 2.7 per cent to £61.77.
