Cut red tape in Budget, urges Hutchings

Share | |

The Chancellor needs to cut red tape to stimulate growth in today's Budget, according to Nigel Hutchings, chief executive of the South West Chamber of Commerce. He told Insider: “We need cuts on expensive, over-complicated, employment red tape and legislation nationally.”

In today’s budget, Osborne is expected to announce the introduction of Enterprise Zones (EZs) - which aim to offer tax benefits and less restrictive planning controls. Hutchings welcomes this idea. He said: “The South West economy is based on small enterprises and so tax breaks for small business are paramount for the South West economy.

“The South West has always lagged in the export market and in an increasingly global economy means businesses need to be looking towards emerging markets. This is something the government should be encouraging.”

In today’s Budget, Osborne is also expected to announce tax breaks to entrepreneurs, reforms to employment law and the shelving of the 1p fuel tax increase.
