Hargreaves Lansdown co-founder quits executive role
Stephen Lansdown, the co-founder of Bristol-based financial services company Hargreaves Lansdown, has resigned as executive director and will take up a non-executive director role at the company.
In addition, the group has appointed two new directors. Ian Gorham has been appointed deputy chief executive officer and will be appointed as chief executive officer on Thursday.
Chris Barling has been appointed as an independent non-executive director.
Barling formerly held senior IT roles at Cable & Wireless and Reuters and is the co-founder of Actinic, a software company that specialises in e-commerce solutions for SMEs.
Peter Hargreaves, current chief executive officer, will continue as an executive director.
Stephen Lansdown said his decision to take on a non-executive role at the company would allow him to concentrate on other interests. Lansdown is chairman of Bristol City Football Club and holds a senior role at development company St James Parade.
Lansdown said: "Over the course of the year my role has been to focus on challenging the board, to ensure it operates efficiently and profitably. I feel this is a role more suited to a non-executive and have, therefore, stepped down from my executive directorships. This will also allow me to concentrate on other interests."
