Queen's Award winner expanding "aggressively"
Queen's Award winner Guildford-based ID Business Solutions (IDBS) is "expanding aggressively", according to chairman and chief executive officer Neil Kipling. He told Insider the company is looking to branch out into established and emerging markets. And he also revealed that further acquisitions could be on the cards.
Kipling was speaking to Insider after it was announced that data management and analytics solutions company IDBS had been awarded a Queen's Award for international trade. IDBS won the accolade for the second time because it has grown overseas income by £8m to a total of £51m over three years.
And Kipling said he was aiming to replicate this success in 2011.
He said: "We're one of the few companies out there right now that is expanding quite aggressively. We are expanding year in year out and when our customers change shape, move and decide to do more research in a country then we will follow them.
"We've got a lot of activity going on in Asia, particularly in China and India. So we will be expanding there, but we'll also continue to expand into the markets we've been involved in for a number of years like the US and central Europe.
"We had a good set of results last year and we want to continue to post a good set of results at the end of this financial year."
Kipling also confirmed that he is on the lookout for potential acquisitions, but he remained tight-lipped when it came to naming specific targets.
"We've made some acquisitions over the last 18 months and we're continuously looking for suitable businesses that could enter our portfolio," he said. "We don't have the luxury of be able to pick where are targets are because we work in quite a specialised area, but I could guess that those organisations will be UK or European-based."
Kipling also revealed that healthcare analytics is the biggest expanding area of IDBS.
"We're pioneering in the market right now, particularly in the UK which is one on the dominant countries leading the good work going on in that area. We see that as quite a substantial growth area over the next 12 – 18 months and there will be quite a large expansion in terms of our home market in the UK and in the US."
