Sex venues to be limited
Brighton & Hove City Council plans to limit the number of sex entertainment venues in the city.
A limit of three has been proposed and will be discussed next week (18 November) at the next meeting of the council’s licensing committee.
A proposed new policy includes lap dancing clubs within the new category of “sex entertainment venue”.
Cool awards for region’s businesses
Two companies based in Ringwood, Hampshire, have won recognition in the annual Cooling Industry Awards.
Coolmation won 'Air Conditioning Product of the Year' with a new innovation that reduces the energy consumption of chillers and heat pumps. The judges called it an “exceptional product”.
Coolmation chairman Gary Franklin said: “To win this flagship award when we’re competing against global blue-chip PLCs is a fantastic achievement.”
ColdService won the 'Contractor of the Year' award in recognition of its quality of service.
Voyages of Discovery’s awards double whammy
Burgess Hill-based Voyages of Discovery has been named 'Best Niche Cruise Line' at the British Travel Awards, while its sister company Swan Hellenic River Cruises received the silver award in the 'Best River Cruise Line' category.
Geoff Lawrence, sales and marketing director, said: “This really is great recognition of our cruises’ popularity.”
Voyages of Discovery also got the gong for 'Best Lectures at Sea' in the Editors’ Picks awards presented by the cruisecritic.co.uk website, while Folkestone-based Saga was named 'Best for Kid-Free Cruising'. Southampton was named 'Best UK Departure Port'. The judges said the city had invested in port facilities that enabled it to handle the biggest ships in the world.
And the award for 'Best New Ship' went to Southampton-based Queen Elizabeth.
