Muse submits business quarter masterplan

15th Nov 2012 North West

Plans for a major mixed-use development in Chester have been submitted as two other property projects in Cheshire have taken important steps forward.

Salford-based Muse Developments has submitted its vision for the Premier House site, a 3.5-acre plot in Chester city centre next to the railway station.

In addition, West Yorkshire-based developer Marshall has lodged an application to build 155 houses on Cheshire Business Park in Northwich while the public consultation is due to start shortly on the Northgate regeneration project.

Muse Developments bought the site in August 2011 which housed a Lloyds Bank call centre.

It plans to demolish the existing Premier House building and construct 481,000 sq ft of office space, including 21,000 sq ft of ground floor units for retail or restaurant uses, up to 200 residential units and a 379-space car park.

The proposed development forms part of the wider central business quarter project, a key part of the city's 15-year property and leisure regeneration vision known as the 'One City Plan'.

Elsewhere, new plans have been submitted to build 155 properties on land at Cheshire Business Park.

The 12-acre plot already has planning permission for an office development and follows on from construction of the first phase of the business park in Lostock Gralam, east of Northwich, where nine offices unit have been completed.

Finally, the first stage of the consultation for Chester's Northgate development project will open later this month.

The city centre plan includes a department store, five large shops, a small supermarket, about 50 smaller retail units and up to 20 food and beverage outlets.

A new multi-screen cinema and market, to be built before the present market closes, will stand alongside the proposed £40m theatre and library complex. Parking for around 1,000 cars is also proposed.

A model of Cheshire West and Chester Council's masterplan will go on view from 26 November to 11 January.
