Disley Tissue set for £50m expansion
Disley Tissue is set to expand its business with a £50m capital investment and the creation of 50 jobs.
The tissue company, based in Disley, Cheshire, is seeking planning permission to expand its paper mill to add a 220-tonne a day wood pulp based mill to its existing 70-tonne recycled paper based mill. The plans have been recommended for approval by planners at Cheshire East Council.
Planning officials said that the proposal represents "inappropriate development" on green belt land, but a robust case has been put forward which demonstrates that special circumstances "outweigh the harm caused by inappropriateness" because of the £50m investment.
Planning officials said: "The capital investment of £50m of largely private money into the UK and local economy, and the creation of 50 new well paid skilled jobs will only occur if there is an extension of the existing factory.
"It is considered that subject to appropriate conditions, the proposal is acceptable, and therefore a recommendation of approval is made."
The plans will be discussed at a council planning meeting on 29 February 2012.
