Ellesmere Port plant closure reports 'speculative'

Share | |

Vauxhall has said reports on the future of the company's Ellesmere Port plant are very "speculative".

But the car maker said the Ellesmere Port plant is company's most "productive and efficient" in Europe.

A spokesman for Vauxhall/Opal said: "Management, the Works Council and the supervisory board of Opel/Vauxhall are all in agreement that Opel/Vauxhall has to become profitable, even in times of tough economic headwinds.

"We are jointly discussing our strategy and will keep our employees and the public informed. Opel/Vauxhall is on a good path and thanks to our excellent model range with six new product launches in 2012, we are sure that we will build on our success in the marketplace."

More than 2,000 people work at the plant.

General Motors, the parent company of Vauxhall, is set to report its latest results next week when details on the future of its European plants could be revealed.
